The last couple of days here on the mountain have felt like early spring. It has been beautiful but today feels like winter again. The wind has been blowing really hard; So much different than yesterday. Lane says she and I have been working outside. We got a lot done. Lane finished cleaning off her garden and now its ready to be tilled which she will do in March. The garlic she planted in November is coming up already. Lane is very excited about watching it grow. I have been busy cutting more dead hemlocks which I hate to do but the wooly white bug has killed them all and if left standing they are a fire hazard and also are in the way of new growth. Lane speaks of how I have also been hauling more rocks for a new project when the weather permits.
We are expanding our garden space again so lane will have more room to plant vegetables. On cold days like this lane likes to stay in as much as possible and look at the seed catalogs she has received in the mail which helps her decide what to plant this coming season. Warm sunny days like the last few gets her itch going to work in the soil but she knows she has to be patient cause its just too early. Patience has never been one of lane’s virtues she says but her granny Hester used to say that you acquire patience with age and she guesses she just isn’t that old yet.
