Still down at midtown market six days a week weather permitting. Lane loves the rain but is so far behind in her garden prep that even though its Sunday, the day of rest, she has decided she has to work in her garden and try to get some plants in the ground.

This morning lane tilled the soil, and got it ready to transplant tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, peppers both hot and sweet, basil, and maybe some butternut squash into the ground. Lane is going to hoe her potatoes also. May is the time to plant sweet corn from May till mid June. Never transplant in the morning unless it’s a cloudy day cause if you transplant in the morning and the sun shines chances are that the heat from the sun will kill your plants. That is unless you shade them with a shade cloth that you can buy at most garden centers or you can shade them with tree limbs that have lots of mature leaves. Lane recommends planting late in the evening after the sun has gone down.

But, whenever you transplant always remember to give your plants plenty of water. Good luck and good planting. Lane says now its off to the garden for her as she hears her plants calling.
