Hi, had an abundance of tomatoes this year. At one time there were over two hundred tomatoes lying on our dining table. Why so many you might ask.

We love tomatoes; in salsa, juice, stewed, frozen, marinara or a tomato sandwich with lots of mayo, or cut up with salt. Lane also grows them to give to friends who don’t have the time to grow them for themselves.

Lane grows several different varieties of tomatoes here with heirloom tomatoes being her favorite because they have more flavors and are more disease resistant than hybrids. We grow them organically with composted horse manure.

Here are some of our favorites; Brandywine is an Amish tomato that comes in yellow, red, pink and purple. It’s got a great tomato taste full of flavor and not too acidic.

Mr. stripy is pale yellow with red streaks running thru the tomato. Its flavor is delicate and is low acid while being sweet and makes a good mater sandwich. Many of our friends ask for this one before the others.

Lanes latest favorite is an old heirloom called Cherokee purple which is a large beefy type with a sweet tart taste. The color is dark and some have thought it to be overripe when getting one. Some have compared this to a zinfandel wine. We love it.

The great thing about all these tomatoes that lanes has spoken about is that you save the seed and plant them again next year with out giving any cash to those criminal corporations.
