Many of the projects on our land are dictated by the available recycled, and sometimes free, materials. In this case beyond the block another friend supplied most of the glass and half of the lumber from “stores”.

So the two by tens for joists were part of the freebies along with the osb to deck and roof it. If not for the two by tens I probably would have used two by eights. In this location, with the possibility of dirt on the uphill side I used more of the six inch blocks to create a bit of a curb on that side. This provided a cantilever on the downhill side.

As this location didn’t allow for full dirt coverage I used Styrofoam insulation on the already parged block with expanded metal lathe over that and parged again.

Ready for backfill.

Ready for the next step in framing.
