Lane tells me her little brain figured out something to write so here it is. She also says the truth is always the best policy.
Yesterday she says we had two nasty inches of snow. It was very wet and slippery. When lane left home in the morning it was raining and just starting to mix with snow. A short time later it turned into all snow. Even down on elk creek where she delivers mail it was snowing. She says when she got back to the post office she called me to see what was happening here on the mountain. I said it had snowed hard for a while and there was possibly an inch or so of snow. It was like real northern cold place sort of thick in the air snow with big flakes.
So lane left the po to come home and got up on white rock where the road was pretty good until lane got about three quarters of a mile from home where her vehicle started spinning going up a steep hill. She has a full time four wheel drive automatic transmission rav4. Good on flat land sort of roads but not reliable transportation in bad weather in the mountains.
She couldn’t go forwards and she couldn’t go backwards. If she did try to go backwards she started sliding so she stopped the vehicle and go out her handy dandy window scraper and cleaned out a clear path behind her so she go in reverse without wet snow stopping progress. When she did this she was able to back down the hill without difficulty. She parked in the first wide spot she could find, locked the rav and walked home. When she got here I told her I was beginning to think I was gonna have to go looking for her as she was later than she had said she would be. So she told me what happened and I asked her what she wanted to do. She said lets go eat Mexican which means going to Wilkesboro to her favorite Mexican restaurant; la Fortuna. The food was excellent as always. By the time we got back I was able to drive her rav home for her and she drove the hooptie because she was too nervous to drive hers on such snow. Didn’t bother me as I’m used to actual snow instead of the practice runs we have here.
Today the snow is mostly gone and the yellow daffodils are in bloom. Funny the difference a day makes.
A good plate of Mexican food will cure anything! I've always known this, and I must say I still agree with myself on this observation!
